What's included in the wii game system?

I finally got a wii for my son for Christmas. I ordered it and it was delivered yesterday. The picture on the box shows what looks like the main system (much smaller then his Xbox360) and a remote. I'm use to seeing him with a controller. Do these systems normally not come with one? It also includes a game called wii sports. Does that game need the remote?
My son will be 16 at Christmas. He plays alot of first-person-shooter games. He'll be getting Soul Calibur IV and Fable II for his Xbox. What games do you recommend for him for wii? Also, what do you think about the Fitness platform and game (mainly for me. LOL).
Sorry for so many questions. Clueless mom trying to figure all this out! Thanks.

In the box, you should receive:
- The wii
- 1 wii remote
- 1 nun chuck
- Wii sports game disc
- Sensor bar, power cable and audio and video cable.
- 1 wii stand to put your wii on.
- 1 wii jacket

The remote is the main controller for the game and the nunchuck is the attachable control stick used for certain games.

Wii sports is a multiplayer/single player game. Some games can be played with multiple people and 1 remote (like bowling) and others need 1 remote per person (like tennis) but to have 2 people able to play at the same time, you will need to buy another wii remote. If you want to play games like 2 player boxing, you will also need to buy another nunchuck.
Wii sports is a partial multiplayer game. You can play multiplayer on all the games but soe of them can be played multiplayer with only 1 remote.

Bowling - 1-4 players. Up to 4 people can play with one remote
Boxing - 1-2 players. You need 1 remote and one nunchuck for each person.
Tennis - 1- 4 players - each player needs 1 remote.
Baseball - 1- 2 players. Each Player needs 1 remote.
Golf - 1-4 players. You can play with 4 players on one remote.

As for the wii fit you mentioned, I think it would be great for a mom. I am trying to encourage my mother to get one because I really think she would love it. I know that it is not for me and I am 16 too so your son probably would feel the same way I feel about it. Which is less than enthusiastic.

Some good games for the wii are Super Mario Galaxy (1 player), Zelda Twilight Princess (1 player), and Mario Kart wii (1-4 players) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (1-4 players). I think your son would enjoy these games because they are the bestsellers.

So that is what you get with your standard wii package that you get in a retail store.

Have fun and good luck.
